Hot-water boiler replacement planning

Identify whether the boiler supplies hot-water radiators, baseboards, or another heating system. If it also contributes to household hot water, include that in the request. Confirm the system type before comparing replacement options.

Is this the same as replacing a steam boiler?

No. Hot-water and steam systems need separate planning. If you are unsure which you have, say so rather than selecting equipment yourself. Include the existing boiler model and a description of the radiators.

Which parts of the job should the quote cover?

Ask whether the scope includes only the boiler or also controls, pumps, valves, piping changes, venting, and removal. Identify any connected hot-water equipment so it is not overlooked.

Can the old venting be reused?

Do not assume it can. Ask the installer to assess the proposed venting arrangement against the selected equipment. Direct-vent equipment, for example, brings combustion air from outside and exhausts through a sealed route.
